The Renfrew County Community Futures Development Corporation (RCCFDC) held its Annual Members’ Meeting on June 26, 2024, in Cobden at the Whitewater Brewing Co. Lakeside Pub. The event highlighted the contributions that the Community Futures Program has made in helping the Renfrew County business community over the past year.
The AGM kicked off with opening remarks from our Board Chair, Mrs. Nicole Handspiker-Adams, followed by a presentation from Christopher Thompson, President & CEO of Whitewater Brewing Co. There was a presentation of the year in review from Executive Director, Cyndy Phillips, highlighting the successes and impact RCCFDC has had in Renfrew County over the course of the past year. Highlights included the strategic planning partnership with the County of Renfrew, the launch of the new Community Development Fund which issued grants to 5 projects across the County, and the formation of several new partnerships. In addition, the total impact of financing in Renfrew County for the 2023-2024 year was shared: $3.26 million in loans were issued to 32 businesses, leveraging an additional $2.25 million in investments and creating or maintaining 243 jobs in Renfrew County. The Board of Directors had the opportunity to attend a workshop led by Aimee Bailey of the Circle of Turtle Lodge. Aimee shared information on our local history to help RCCFDC better acknowledge the Algonquin Anishinabe people of this land and discover how we might take steps toward meaningful reconciliation.
A moment of reflection was observed in memory of Diane McKinnon, former long-time Executive Director of RCCFDC who passed away on June 16th, 2024.
RCCFDC also acknowledged and thanked the Government of Canada for its continued support through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario).
