On June 24, the Renfrew County Community Futures Development Corporation (RCCFDC) held its 2026 Annual General Meeting, preceded by a tour of SRB Technologies in Pembroke, preceded by a tour of SRB Technologies in Pembroke — a longstanding Renfrew County business with innovation at its core.

A Milestone Anniversary

RCCFDC’s 2026 annual general meeting brought together board members, staff, and partners to reflect on a milestone year: the RCCFDC’s 40th anniversary. Since opening its doors in 1986, the organization has invested over $52 million in Renfrew County small business and community development, disbursed more than 1,000 loans, and impacted over 6,000 jobs across the region.

A Strong Year for Renfrew County Business

Throughout 2025–2026, the RCCFDC invested $2.4 million across 20 businesses, supporting 137 jobs and leveraging an additional $3.3 million in the local economy. Beyond financing, the team responded to 88 general inquiries, delivered 131 business counselling sessions, and assisted 83 businesses — a reminder that support doesn’t begin and end with a loan.

This year also marked a significant shift in inclusive lending. While 42% of loans in 2024–2025 served underrepresented communities, that figure rose to 91% in 2025–2026 — reflecting the RCCFDC’s ongoing commitment to ensuring that entrepreneurship in Renfrew County is accessible to everyone.

Recognizing Dedicated Board Service

The AGM was also an occasion to honour two long-serving board members stepping down from their roles.

Ray Bonenberg, Past Chair of the Board, was recognized for 15 years of dedicated service. Ray’s steady leadership and genuine commitment to this region have left a lasting impact on the organization. In remarks following the presentation of his award, Ray reflected on what has made the RCCFDC endure:

“Our board and staff have always maintained a growth mindset. We accomplished a great deal over the years through our openness to innovation and forward thinking. As you move forward, nurture that.”

Nicole Handspiker-Adams, Chair of the Board, was recognized for 9 years of service. Under Nicole’s leadership, the RCCFDC has continued to grow, adapt, and respond to the evolving needs of rural entrepreneurs and communities across Renfrew County.

Looking Ahead

As the RCCFDC marks its 40th year, the organization remains focused on what has always mattered most: connecting Renfrew County entrepreneurs and communities with the financing, guidance, and resources they need to grow. With four decades of impact behind it and a strong foundation to build on, the RCCFDC looks forward to continuing to serve this region throughout this milestone year and beyond.
