CANtrade™ loans will be available to qualifying ventures as part of the Community Futures Program in Renfrew County through October 31, 2025, or until all funds are deployed. The program is designed to support businesses investing in future growth and adaptability.

CANtrade™ Loan Features
- Borrow from $5,000 to $150,000
- Interest rate of prime to prime +2%
- Up to a 60-month repayment term
- Interest-only payments for the first 6 months
- No penalties or fees apply if you repay your loan early
- At maximum loan amounts, other collateral security may be required
- There is a Loan Administration Fee of 1%
- Other terms and conditions may apply and may be updated from time to time.
Eligible Applicants
To be considered for CANtrade™, applicants must:
Be a for-profit business that is not a subsidiary of a foreign-owned company
Be located and operating in Renfrew County, with a track record of viability
Ideally provide operational and financial statements from the past three years
Meet the general eligibility requirements of the Community Futures Program
Applicants should be able to demonstrate how investment will unlock business opportunities, given the current trade environment.
Project Suitability
Applicants will normally be pursuing some of the following activities (as examples):
- Responding to increased inter-provincial trade/domestic customer demand
- Re-shoring and localizing of critical supply chains
- Undergoing competitiveness enhancements
- Increasing production capacity
- Hiring talent and investing in technology
- Looking at opportunity costs of new export market development
- Strengthening trade security/reducing product or supply chain exposure/pivoting to new sectors
- Carrying out Applied R&D with near-term product/service/process innovation commercialization potential
- Incremental business development/marketing activities
- Investing in localization costs (e.g. certification, legal, labelling, testing, adapting content/products/services to specific languages and cultures, etc.)
- Carrying out any other activities designed to diversify revenue streams.
Use of Proceeds
- Supply chain diversification
- New market expansion within Canada and/or abroad
- Increasing production capacity to meet new national/global demand
- Working capital stabilization
- Operational efficiencies and savings to absorb tariff impacts
- Professional services (consulting) to assist in any of the above.

Funding decisions are made by Renfrew County Community Futures in its sole, unfettered discretion.
No amount of funding is guaranteed.
Program availability is based on availability of funding.
Applications will be assessed competitively, and applicants will be subject to reasonable industry-standard due diligence.

Each party is responsible for their own legal costs and associated fees
Renfrew County Community Futures may request substantiation of any claim, statement or information provided by CFP/CANtrade™ applicants and participants.

FAQ
Does my company have to show that we were negatively affected by tariffs in order to qualify for this loan?
No, you don’t. CANtrade™ is not a relief or emergency program, so there’s no requirement to show financial hardship or losses due to tariffs. Instead, the program is designed to help businesses move forward—by lowering opportunity costs and supporting confident investment during times of trade uncertainty and global economic change.
What if my business isn’t a fit for CANtrade™, are there other options for support?
