The Renfrew County Economic Development Summit 2025 brought together local business leaders, community partners, and economic development professionals for a full day of learning, collaboration, and inspiration. Hosted by the Renfrew County Community Futures Development Corporation (RCCFDC) and the County of Renfrew, this year’s Summit embraced the theme Rooted in Resilience, reflecting the strength and adaptability that define rural Eastern Ontario.
Held on November 25, 2025 at the Best Western Pembroke Inn & Conference Centre, the event welcomed more than 80 participants representing businesses, municipalities, nonprofits, and regional agencies. Throughout the day, attendees explored new strategies to support sustainable growth in Renfrew County’s rural economy.

Graduates from the Rural Ontario Institute’s 2025 Rural Changemakers program shared insights from their local community projects, demonstrating how youth engagement and leadership contribute to the region’s growth.

To Sell or Not to Sell: Succession Planning for Businesses
Experts from the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC), David Lyons and Daniel Stevens, emphasized that succession planning is not something to postpone. Preparing to transition a business can be a long and complex process that often takes years, and developing staff independence is critical to increasing the business’s value. Their guidance provided business owners with practical strategies to ensure continuity and long-term success in Renfrew County.

Keynote: Inspiring Resilience with Mike Trauner
The Summit concluded with keynote speaker Master Corporal (Ret’d) Mike Trauner, Medal of Valour recipient, Invictus Games gold medalist, Ontario Paracycling coach, and local hero. Mike shared his remarkable story of resilience against incredible odds. Attendees were deeply moved and inspired by his journey, leaving the session with a renewed sense of grit, gratitude, and motivation to persevere in the face of challenges. His message highlighted the power of perseverance and the strength found in community support.
